Chase the Dream

Floating to Fulfilling the Olympic Dream

Swimgym, the swim school arm of the Howick Pakuranga Swim Club, has operated with increasing professionalism since 1987. It really is the place you want to be if you are wanting to learn how to swim, or if you are concerned about the water safety of your young ones.

Swimgym has developed from a small one site learn to swim operation to a multiple site operator without forgetting the importance of every contact we have with our clients. The reason we have grown – because we are very good at what we do. NZ_Swimmer

In the Swimgym programme the learner will move seamlessly from blowing bubbles, to swimming all strokes to … well the sky is the limit. You or your child will be well looked after from early learning through to where-ever they want to finish. Our locations are noted above with access to Swimgym likely to widen by 2015. Keep an eye out. Swimgym started in 1987 at Lloyd Elsmore Pool in Pakuranga and continues to operate out of that Auckland Council facility. In 2012 its own purpose built luxury facility was built in Howick with cutting edge comfort, and air and water handling. Finally in mid-2012 Swimgym developed learn to swim at the Otara and Papatoetoe pools. Swimgym is also the proud supplier of the John Walker, Find Your Field of Dreams progamme. Find Your Field of Dreams is a Lion Foundation, Auckland Council supported swim programme delivering over 4000 free lessons every week to South and East Auckland school children. Swimgym is a Quality Swim School as recognized by Swimming New Zealand and is also a member of the Swim Australia and an International Swim Schools Association member. All of our staff are Swimming New Zealand qualified, many hold international qualifications and we also hold regular in house training. Swimgym is the professional arm of the Howick Pakuranga Swimming Club. HPK consistently performs at the highest level both here in New Zealand and internationally. Our Squad structure is based around a long term athlete development plan however we also understand that athletes grow and develop at their own pace. Our goal is to ensure that every athlete leaves the HPK Swim squads at the end of their career with fond memories of great performances or great friendships. Our primary training pool is the Pakuranga College Pool. We train here year round in the 8 lane 33 1/3m heated pool. We have primary use of the facility outside school hours. Pak Pool

Long Term Athlete Development

It is our intent to have a development process that looks after the needs of each athlete in the programme to the best of our ability. Each part of the programme right from learn to swim should link into the next with the least possible inconvenience to the learner or athlete. Ideally we will develop technique first (up to 10 years old). Maintain technique, and then start to learn how to train (10-12 years old). Finally swimmers (once they know how to train) will learn how to race.
